Recent applications of A-GPS enabled mobile phones include such new applications as the personal and vehicle navigation. The mobile-based (MB) operation mode is used for these applications where continuous (~1Hz) position fixes are needed. Since the sensitivity assistance (SA) data used in the mobile-assisted operation to increase the sensitivity can not be used for extended period of time generally required in the mobile-based operation, the sensitivity of the mobile phones operating under the mobile-based mode can suffer substantial degradation compared to the phones under the mobile-assisted mode. This paper presents a novel and efficient method to increase sensitivity of A-GPS receiver operating under the mobile-based mode by continuously reconstructing the navigation data bit information within the mobile phone without receiving the SA data. The navigation data information generated by the method described in the paper is equivalent to the SA data used in the mobile-assisted mode except for the fact that this self-generated data can be used for longer period of time typically needed in the types of application mentioned above. As a result, the sensitivity of the receiver operating under the mobile-based mode is improved by the longer coherent integration (~100ms) process with the help of the self-generated SA data.
