It is of crucial interest for computer copntrolled camera systems to exigibit what is possessed by Human Vision System (HVS), which demonstrates high efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out proutine perceptive tasks. To that end a ealth of different variable resolution methods have been developed to emulate the inique structure of the HVS in the research discipline of active vision. In our previous work we have developed the Foveate Wavelet Transform (FWT) as a new variable resolution representation with the benefits such as close emulation of the HVS, data reduction, and linearity preserfance. Scan path is employed by the HVS to observe a scene which is largerl than its field of view. An intelligent scanning scheme is developed in this paper in an effort to emulate the scane path of the HVS by taking advantage of the unique feature of th e FWT. With this new scanning sceme, and ad hoc strategy is adopted to determine the next fixation point based on both a prescribed scanning order and the instant interest of the point due to its spatial and temporal properties. Preliminary experiments post encouraging performance of this proposed scanning scheme.
