Target Classification using Spatially Flexible Directed Pursuits

There has been much attention given to the chazracterization of canonical scattering pheneomena in complex synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery for the purpose of classification. These features are often extracted using greedy algorithms, such as matching Pursuits, which attempt to extract a low-dimensional representation of a given SAR image using a prescribed feature dicitionary. As results to data have been predominantly anecodotal in nautre, it is of interest to assess the utility of these techniques in full automated target classification applications. In this investigation, we will focus on the potential incorporation of such techniques into automatic target recognition (ATR) systems.
