Kyungin Canal, which is planned to be constructed, needs the installation of a lock gate to control the effect of tide, so that ships can go in and out the canal. The prearranged site of the canal in western coast has the large difference between ebb and flood of tide which extended approximately 10m. In order to operate the lock gate and fill/empty system more careful attention is needed for the large difference of water levels between the both sides of the lock gate. Also more precise investigation is needed when the lock gate and chamber are designed. In present study, for the lock chamber in the Inchon side of Kyungin Canal, the hydraulic characteristics of lock chamber are analyzed using hydraulic model tests. Based on the tests, operation rules and mooring systems are investigated in order to design and manage lock chamber.
