According to investigations of statistical branch of economics department, by the end of April, 2000, there are over 7,600 textile factories in taiwan with staff about 277,000 persons. There are about 25, 000 persons working in fiber industry, 157,000 persons in textile industry and 95,000 persons in apparel industry. By statistics of 1999, the total production is 550.9 billion Yuan, in which export is 14.19 billion US dollars, down 2.5percent compared to that of last year, and import is 2.88 billion US dollars, down 9percent compared to that of last year. It is estimated that the average annual production of each personnel in textile industry is about 1,988.9 Taiwan Yuan by inference of these statistics.
