AUTOMATED SAMPLING THE ROAD AHEAD ARMISTEAD M. LONG

Automated sampling equipment is rapidly becoming a normal part of aggregate and paving plants throughout North America. At the same time, a number of automated gradation devices are in manufacture or under development. To date, however, installations that integrate these technologies into true on-line sampling & gradation systems are few. This paper provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art in sampling equipment. It also presents two different automatic gradation methods and reviews current efforts underway for the integration of these devices with sampling equipment for the creation of automated on-line sampling & gradation systems from an equipment manufacturer's perspective.
