This paper assesses finite element theories of multilayered plates subjected to static loadings in view of the fulfilment of so-called C_z~0-requirements. Classical models formulated on the basis of Principle of Virtual Displacements, PVD, are compared to corresponding models based on Reissner Mixed Variational Theorem, RMVT. The latter one permits to assume two independent fields for diplacement and trasnverse stress components leading to complete and a priori fullfillment of C_z~0-requirements. Both layer-wide and equivalent-single-layer cases have been implemented. Linear up to fourth-order displacement and transverse stress fields are considered. Numerical assessment is given for a cross-ply plates under transverse pressure. It is concluded that finite elements formulated on the basis of RMVT leads to better description of multilayered plates with respect to classical finite elements based on PVD.
