So motivation here: Ms. X contacts a journalist with some classified information, a classic whistle blower. Precautions have been taken toward to conceal location and to conceal the traffic. Some burner email addresses, the sort of stuff that, I don't know, if I'd know everything you have to do but if you're gonna get into this, you'd probably do a better research about. Access the internet using a mobile phone at random cafes, so never tied to a single internet access point or what not. Report breaks in the news, heads must roll. Authorities can narrow a suspect list based on the type of information. Who might have had access and stuff like that. But no one's breaking, they can't figure out who it is. And this is a bit of a contrived example but it's a motivation for this. The question is, did the suspect make a mistake?
