Software synthesis is a revolutionary technique in the development of distributed real-time systems in order to shorten the design-cycle for embed-ded systems. The time-to-market property of a product is of key concern in the development process. Software reuse of reliable components and an automatic generation are of main focus. A new description of the components and their interdependencies is presented. A methodology for inserting expert-knowledge into this description, as well as exploiting this knowledge-base for the synthesis process is given. The focus of this work is on the automatic generation of the communication system code for a distributed embedded application out of a multi-target component library. Software synthesis is an alternative approach to real-time system software instead of using operating system kernels. The aggregation of SW-components out of a system specification leads to a better utilization of the available time and resources. Customization of functionality is an effective approach to adapt the system code to the needed demands of the application. On top of that it is possible to analyze the required system before run-time. By this, errors, bottlenecks or gaps in the system specification can be detected.
