The installation of bored piles is undergoing some scrutiny with respect to acceptable parameters to be used in the design for shaft resistance and end bearing. A dynamic test pile program was designed for several shallow bored piles socketed into Sydney shale. A twenty (20) tonne drop hammer was used for the dynamic testing. The results were compared to locally accepted design parameters with the test results indicating a significant saving to be made with the adoption of the test pile results.
