Sintering of ceramic compacts using microwave energy offers several interesting features. Many investigations demonstrate rapid volumetric heating and acceleration of the densification processes. In order to guarantee the reliability of these results it is necessary to ensure that hte temperature inthe microwave furnace is measured correctly. In this experimental work the results obtained from temeprature measurements in a multimode microwave furnace at 2.45 GHz are discussed. The measurements were carried out suing thermocouples, pyrometrers and optical fibre sensors.
