Comparison of Sulfidic Oxidation Rates Meaured in the Laboratory and the Field

Oxidation rates of sulfidic mine wastes measured at a range of size scales have been collected from a number of sources. The results suggest that well-designed laboratory columns, under controled conditions, provide comparable information on oxidation rates to that obtained from field test piles. It has been found in the cases presented that laboratory measurements of oxidation rates of a particular material type can be applied with confidence to the same materials in the field.
