We propose a joint time slot and transmitted power assignment policy for a multimedia dynamic TDMA wireless network. The objective is the mimimization of the total transmitted power while satisfying quality of service requirements. The problem is formulated as a constrained optimization problem and the method of Lagrange multipliers is used to obtain the solution. The policy employs the minimum energy per frame necessary for the prescribed per-link QoS, thus maximizing battery life, and the minimum total power policy also minimizes external interference. Criteria based on available per-node transmitted power and transmitted data rate are developed to determine the feasibility of the optimum policy. Detailed closed-form results for the two-user case are provided to draw insight and to show the utility of the approach.
