Surface Wetting Properties of Si{sub}3N{sub}4/SiC ceramics by Cu Alloys

Surface wetting properties of ceramics by Cu alloys are reviewed with emphasis on the reactive system. The content of chromium, titanium in Cu alloys effects strongly on the interface and contact angle of wetting surfaces. However, the mechanism the reactive wetting has not been made clear enough yet, because it consists of complex steps, such as dissolution of substrate, diffusion of elements, formation of reaction product, and pure wetting. This review focus on two types of ceramics wetting with Cu alloy, that is SiC and Si{sub}3N{sub}4. It will be shown that the addition of active elements to copper alloy is necessary to increase the wetting on the interface of ceramics and metals.
