Influence of the shape of a striker on the mechanical responses of composite beams

摘要

The aim of this study is to analyze the mechanical responses of laminated composite beams under low velocity impact loading using several shapes of the stricker end to simulate the accidental fall of a tool. The impact tests have been performed using a drop weight set-up. The composite is made of glass fibres reinforced isophtalic polyester resin. Whatever the striker end the mechanical results are very similar and suggest that the shape of the impactor has no influences because the area of the end is small against the area of the beam. On the other hand, the damage induced is different according to the shape of the impactor.
