COMINCO'S TRAIL OPERATIONS: AN INTEGRATED ZINC-LEAD OPERATION

With the successful start-up of Cominco's new KIVCET smelter, the final key component is now in place for Trail Operations to operate efficiently as a modem integrated zinc-lead facility. Unique metallurgical, operational, planning and management issues apply to this operation. Along with presenting the current flowsheet for Trail Operations, this paper discusses issues such as the impact of recycles, operational re-stabilization following significant process changes, plant operation with just-in-time inventories, real-time process optimization, and management philosophy.
