Fused fibre 2 x 2 couplers are key components for telecommunication networks. The fusion and tapering technique is the preferred technique because fused couplers are easy to manufacture, low cost and low loss devices. They also are the basic elements of a number of more complex ocmpnents which are as well essential parts of the networks.
