Fabrication of 100 mm-Diameter Y-Ba-Cu-O Bulk QMG Superconductors with Large Levitation Forces

Bulk Y-Ba-Cu-O QMG superconductors with larger diameters up to 100 mm have been successfully grown. Nearly-dieal concentric distributions of magnetic flux density are realized for 75 mm samples, and a record-high value of the magnetic levitation force of 171 kgf is obtained for a 100 mm sample. Detailed analyses of the sample crystallinity using Electron Back-Scattering Diffraction (EBSD) have revealed that the maximum value of the misorientation angles at subgrain boundaries obtained in the measurements reaches 6.6 deg.
