APPLICATION OF COLLOID TITRATION AND ZETA POTENTIAL IN PAPER INDUSTRY

In this paper, charge of polymers and cationic charge demand of stock are detected by colloid titration. Colloid titration is used together with Zeta potential instrument to analysis papermaking electrostatic phenomena and to provide the basis theory for process control of wet-end chemistry. The results show that colloid titration is an easy, fast and accurate method to measure charge of polymers at all pH value. Some factors affecting measurement of charge of polymers and cationic charge demand of pulp slurries are discussed. And the effect of Zeta potential of stock on filler retention and paper properties is studied.
