Kenedy Wind Farm Project: A Number of New Designs for AEP

American Electric Power's Kenedy Wind Farm project was constructed with several new and unique designs to AEP. The station and transmission line construction in South Texas included 345 kV voltage class station service transformers, copper-clad steel equipment grounds, a polymer concrete, precast, cable trench, a freestanding DC panelboard, 345kV 5000 A circuit breakers, 345 kV 5000 A double end break vee switches, 345 kV 5000 A bus with double insulator bus supports, larger control building HVAC, a 345 kV capacitor bank, new 345 kV transmission poles, and a 345 kV GIS station. The lessons learned from the Kenedy Wind Farm station project helped to improve existing and develop new substation standards which will be used throughout AEP.
