This study dealt with the effect of matrix resin on the hydrothermal aging behavior of glass woven fabric reinforced cross-linked polyester composites. Three types of cross-linked polyester resins; isophthalic base and bisphenol based cross-linked polyester and vinylester resins, were used as matrix, and the neat resin specimen and composite specimen reinforced by glass woven fabric were prepared. All the specimens were immersed in hot water and weight change and tensile properties were evaluated. From the weight change measurement and tensile testing, the effect of matrix on the aging behavior was not so significant at short aging time, and it appeared at longer aging time. The main effect of matrix on the aging behavior was the degradation of the interphase region in the composite. In isophthalic based and bisphenol based cross-linked polyester composites, the degradation of the interphase occurred at longer aging time, and it induced the water penetration into the interphase and the strength reduction. On the other hand, significant degradation of the interphase did not occur in vinylester composites.
