A method for determining residence time distribution with response to any known function and the relationships for data interpretation are presented and used for particles in an impinging stream contactor of two horizontal jets. The results show that reproducibility of data is acceptable, the particle flow is characterized by perfect-mixing with a small time lag, and the mean residence time in impingement zone is ranged from 0.6 to 1.8 s, most 0.8-1.4 s. The method is also, in principle, applicable for other materials in other processing devices.
