1, 2-Dichloroethane (1, 2-DCA; also known as ethylene dichloride or EDC) is intrinsically biodegrading through a combination of anaerobic and aerobic processes in the groundwater at a former lanfill and ammonium nitrate impoundment at a chemical manfuacturing facility in Louisiana. In the source area, 1, 2-DCA is undergoing exensive reductive dhialoelimination to ethene, with ethene concentrations exceeding 48 mg/L. Laboratory microcosm studies using site soil and groundwater confirmed the dihaloelination reaction, with ethene recoveries typically representing between 62 and 99
