Background/Objective. An innovative rotating dual axis in situ soil blending technology was utilized to remediate trichloroethylene (TCE) contamination present in surface/ subsurface clay soil at a former electrical component manufacturing facility near Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Site). TCE was present at concentrations up to 140 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) in upper clays and also detected beneath the source area in a deeper underlying sand stratum and groundwater at concentrations up to 27.5 mg/kg and 100 milligrams per liter (mg/l), respectively. It was expected that an aggressive treatment approach would effectively eliminate the source area and significantly reduce impacts to the downgradient plume.
