Background/Objectives. Various manufacturing operations were conducted at the 26-acre Ambler, Pennsylvania, site between the early 1900s and 2000s. Herbicides and pesticides were manufactured during an approximate 40-year period. 1,2-Dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) was a prominent ingredient in the process. 1,2-DCA and other constituents of concern (COCs) were discovered in groundwater during the course of remedial work conducted under Pennsylvania’s Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act (Act 2). Concentrations of 1,2-DCA (>200,000 μg/L) were particularly elevated relative to the applicable Act 2 Statewide Health Standard (SHS, 5 μg/L).
