Overview. The remediation of historical impacts from dense nonaqueous-phase liquids (DNAPL) and the resulting dissolved phase chlorinated organic impacts at third party sites requires the implementation of efficient and cost-effective remedial solutions in order to return the property to viable future use. As part of the overall project area remediation effort, sustainable and innovative in situ investigative and remedial technologies have been employed to focus the remedial efforts. The successful design, implementation and performance monitoring of the targeted remediation area, using a combination of targeted DNAPL recovery/in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO)/in situ chemical reduction (ISCR), has allowed for significant concentration reductions with the targeted constituents near to or attaining the required clean-up standards at the Site. Inwell absorbent socks, containing an innovative organosilica material, have also been utilized to address localized hotspots. Each technology was synergistically implemented to take advantage of varying subsurface site conditions.
