摘要

Many new remedial substrates are being developed in the laboratory environment that have great promise for field application. Often these innovations are abandoned or modified to the point where they are no longer effective remedial technologies due to issues that arise in scaling from a bench scale to field scale level. Substrates developed to breakdown target contaminants that are successful under laboratory conditions may be rendered inactive by matrix interferences experienced in the field or may be rendered innocuous during transport from manufacturing sites to the treatment area. University researchers, who are able to develop new remedial substrates often do not have the resources available to allow the optimization and scale up of these technologies to the point where they have a viable commercial application.
