摘要

Property transactions in Japan often require soil and groundwater remediation prior to the transfer of property, and so site closure must be attained within a short period of time. Typically, costly countermeasures such as soil excavation would be applied in an effort to achieve site closure most quickly. Meanwhile, different from the United States, Japanese regulations prescribe remedial standards not only for groundwater, but also for saturated soil below the water table. Given that these typical soil contamination countermeasures are either very expensive, limited in their extent and application, and potentially very disruptive to the site, a timely and cost-effective in situ remedial approach to the remediation of low permeability soils is particularly desirable in Japan. EOS Remediation LLC and Chemical Grout Co. Ltd (CGC) have worked together to merge an innovative bioremediation approach with construction techniques to remediate saturated soils contaminated with chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) in a shortened remedial timeframe and cost-effective manner.
