Legacy dissolved-phase chlorinated organic volatile (CVOC) groundwater plumes were identified at six separate locations within the boundaries of the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, ranging in size from 5 to 39 acres in lateral extent. A performance-based (PB) bioremediation approach was implemented at these sites to address CVOC levels that exceeded MCL in groundwater, with maximum dissolvedphase levels as high as 15 mg/L. The PB approach ensured that the implemented remedial strategy would achieve remedial action objectives (RAOs) IAW the approved Record of Decision (ROD) through use of performance milestones that included measurable and quantifiable performance metrics.
