Realizing the future: enterprise solutions for 21st century Information Agriculture

There is great potential for the use of information technologies to connect many key players in agriculture, including producers, processors, crop consultants, seed salesmen, chemical distributors, USDA field offices, universities, and laboratories. Effective deployment of information technologies must address four key areas for the agriculture community: Education - users must understand how they can benefit; Usability - systems must convey understanding to the user; Accessibility - the system must be available from convenient sites; Affordability - inventive business models must be applied to make the solutions affordable. Innovative solutions adapted to service multiple users will be shown to have great potential for meeting these requirements. Enterprise geospatial knowledge management architectures, integrating user-adaptive software agents, spatial data warehousing, intelligent decision support systems, data fusion and data mining will be defined for Information Agriculture. In an enterprise, web-based, collaborative environment, we will demonstrate how cultural, affordability, and accessibility issues can be addressed.
