A general preference for a specific type of hearing protector cannot he given. Only that hearing protector is a good hearing protector, which is worn during the total exposure period. The presentation of some types of hearing protectors regarding several aspects of ergonomic design have shown that an improvement of that design is often combined with higher efforts in selection of PPE or in training the users or in application of additional quality management measures in order to guarantee the required level of protection. Improvement of ergonomic design of PPE must always be obtained on the background of fulfilling the essential health and safety requirements of the 'PPR-Directive'.
