Pre-test Predictions with the Analysis Program for the Debris Coolability in Lower Plenum

An analysis program was developed to estimate the thermal and mechanical transients during the Lower Head Integrity (LHI) test which has been planned to identify the cooling phenomena of melt slumping into the lower plenum and mechanical behavior of the lower head heated by debris. The present analysis program has the thermal and mechanical models that simulates the phenomena during the LHI test. The program are based on the existing correlations or models. Pre-test prediction was performed under the condition in which the 60kg melt at 3000K temperature dropped into the stainless steel lower head (0.8m diameter and 25mm thickness) containing saturated water at 0.2MPa. Sensitivity calculations were also performed for volumetric heating power, melt component, initial pressure and so on. Pre-test predictions presented the helpful information to the system designs, the test procedures and the data analysis on the LHI test. This program will be improved on the thermal and mechanical models using the data from the LHI test.
