As a basis for further research work about the influence of rock and rock mass parameters on the blast fragmentation result, a literature review of around 100 articles was performed. The analysis shows, that there is a rather unanimous opinion about the importance of various rock material parameters on the blasting result, as the tensile strength and the acoustic impedance. In addition the influence of single joint parameters on the blasting result is discussed in a series of articles. But the literature analysis also revealed that the most widely used blast fragmentation models hardly take into consideration those rock and rock mass parameters which are considered to be of importance for the blast fragmentation. This is assumed to be the reason why existing blast fragmentation models cannot be applied in a general way to be different blasting sites and usually are limited to the fragmentation prediction for various blasting geometries at a certain blast site.
