A phytotoxin produced by the causal pathogen of black spot of peach, the peach pathotype of Alternaria alternata

Anew disease of peach (Prunes persica var. vulgaris), causing black spot has occurred in Okayama Prefecture, in 1995. Shimizu hakuto, one of the main cultivar in peach production in Okayama was severely damaged in the orchard. The disease was observed leaves, twigs and fruits. Based on morphological characteristics, the causal fungus was identified as Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler.
