Cu additions are being discussed to develop new high strength steels with high formability. A systematic study has been carried out to evaluate the role of Cu on the austenite-to-ferrite transformation during run-out table cooling and as a precipitation strengthener. Cu reduces the transformation temperatures thereby refining the ferrite grains. A substantial precipitation strengthening effect of Cu is observed at 500 deg C with increasd precipitation rate as pre-deformation is applied.
