In the industry of iron ore pellets induration the production equipments are used to the maximum but with more and more constraints to reduce the product quality variability. Under these conditions, the use of a global process simulator is a powerful mean for improving the effectiveness of process supervision since it makes it possible to provide tools, such as estimators of the energy transported by the gas, more precise and significant than those traditionally used. This article describes the development of a mathematical model of the gas flow distribution in straight grate pellet induration furnaces. The furnace is broken up into inter-connected homogeneous modules. The simulator makes it possible then to characterise the steady state of the process using a minimal number of input information.
