Performance and characteristic of lithium ion cells for BB-X590 lithium ion batteries

U.S. Army is developing a Lithium ion rechargeable BB-2590 battery for PM Sincgar radios. Many different types of commercial cells are being evaluated for the BB-X590 configuration batteries. The Lithium ion cell can be discharged at 5 C rate, but when the 24 lithium ion cells are packed into BB-590 box. The heat build-up from high rate discharge restricts the BB-X590 batteries to discharge completely. This evaluation is to characterize the boundary conditions for lithium ion cells and BB-2590batteries.
