To meet the cost and performance requirements of military applications, prismatic Li-ion cells are being developed at Yardney Technical Products, Inc. Improved low cost, energy dense and stable materials are being developed to address Army rateand temperature performance goals. The performance of commercially available doped spinel cathode materials has been evaluated. Improved materials offer capacity comparable to previous materials with low capacity fade, rate capability to 2C and improvedhigh temperature stability. Some physical properties of these materials are described.
