The issue of safety is one of the primary concerns for battery industry. When the chemical reaction occurs within the battery case, the battery cell may burst under high pressure1 which could cause serious problems. In order to improve themechanical design of the battery casing and quality control of battery products, APP has developed an Automated Battery Burst Pressure Testing System (ABBPTS) that can test many different types of battery cells at a wide pressure range with high accuracy. During the test, the microprocessor controlled ABBPTS can control the pressurization rate accurately and detect the battery burst pressure precisely. With a user friendly interface program, the system can provide reliable consistent burst pressure results and customized data acquisition system under user defined conditions. Through the self-test procedure, all system hardware components can be automatically checked for easy trouble shooting.
