RD processes in the 21st century

In the 1980s, the Japanese method of concurrent engineering product development gathered much interest in western industrial society. As a result of a vast study centering around this method, S. J. Kline proposed a "chain-linked model ofinnovation, which shows how interactions take place between research and development. He contrasted this model with a "linear model", representing the classic research and development concept.In comparison to the above models this paper discusses;(a) The concept of research as the lead, which has been viewed negatively in the "linear model", must be properly evaluated.(b) Now that new research and development methods are used which mask the production phase, such as the ones applied for software, new models must be created.The discussion leads to proposal of new models which, supplementing the models of Kline, will represent diverse research and development cases in the 21st Century
