It Is becoming apparent that government and industry must re-frame the way we view and think about mobility and safety. The stage is being set for a paradigm shift which places emphasis on human-centred solutions. This paper examines someergonomics issues associated with ITS system safety to illustrate the need for greater integration of human-centred principles in transportation systems development. An approach to addressing safety concerns is provided and emerging issues in discussed.
