The introduction of replacement stock into a commercial herd poses challenges for a variety of reasons. Each new group of replacement gilts or boars always carries the risk of introducing a new disease entity if an undetected change in health status has occurred at the source herd. Also, introduction of replacement stock can be associated with acclimatization problems if there is a difference in health status between the source herd and the commercial herd.
