Evaluating the impact of the changes in herd management due to PRRS on the control of reproductive losses due to parvoviral and leptospiral infection

Highly efficacious vaccines are available today for the control of porcine parvovirus-induced reproductive failure. Widespread use of available 5-way bacterins have been associated with a very low incidence of reproductive failure by laboratory examination. However, once again, changes in gilt backgrounding and concern for spread of PRRS by exposure to sow manure has exposed our producers to new risks that can be evaluated by serologic testing.
