A major goal of the Corporate Campus Building for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield near Cincinnati, Ohio, was to design a 232, 000 S.F. facility with 850 parking spaces on a 50 acre site, that utilized the form to reduce energy usage and promote sustainability. The project combines orientation, proportion, site layout and energy efficient engineering design to promote sustainability as well as reduce energy cost. These features are used to determine the shape of the building, to site the building including parking location and as part of the total architectural composition. This paper describes the project's features and offers conclusions as to their effects on sustainability and cost savings.
