This paper investigates the bundling of solar hot water projects with energy efficiency projects to allow for a more favorable economic analysis. This paper demonstrates various bundling scenarios by combining lighting and solar hot water system retrofits for five locations in the continental U.S. Solar hot water systems are evaluated at solar fractions of: 0, 30, 60, and 90 percent. The characteristics of a typical office building are included in the analysis. A simple payback calculation is used to demonstrate the combined effect of bundling the technologies. The results show that a solar hot water system can be bundled into a conventional lighting efficiency project with minimal effect on economics for modest solar fractions. A 5 to 9% premium is observed for systems with a solar fraction of 30%. The Premium is 6 to 11% for a solar fraction of 60% and 16 to 29% for a solar fraction of 90%.
