Integrated pest management is name or title that has been given to something that has a history that long precedes the name, and will likely long outlive the name. Regardless of the name - it embodies concepts and ideas that are useful, and for that reason have been applied for a long time. I don't imply that everything we do or have done in forest vegetation management is all within the spirit or concept of IPM, but much is. The degree that the ideas are helpful in practice and helpful in explaining what you do, then they deserve wider attention. My purpose today is to recall the history to see where it has taken us, and give some thought to what it holds for the future.
