PI ASMA PHARMACOKINETICS OF CEFTIOFUR HYDROCHLORIDE RFDUCED IN PORCINE REPRODUCTIVE AND RESPIRATORY SYNDROME VIRUS INFECTED PIGS

The objective of the study was to evaluate the plasma pharmacokinetics of ceftiofur hydrochloride in PRRSV infected pigs. Sixteen, 5 week-old PRRSV negative pigs were randomly assigned based on the stratification of weight, age and sexes into 2 treatment groups consisting of A) control (non-infected pigs, n=8) and B) PRRSV infection (infected pigs, n=8). Two groups were housed in separated rooms and each room contained 2 pens of 4 pigs each. Two ml of mock saline solution was administered intranasally to group A (I ml per nostril) at 0 day post infection (DPI) and group B was challenged intranasally with 2 ml of Thai PRRSV isolate (1048 TCID50/ml, 1 ml per nostril). At 7 DPI, all pigs in each group were administered with a single intramuscular injection of ceftiofur hydrochloride at the dosage of 3 mg ceftiofur equivalent (CE)/kg body weight.
