The diagnosis of infections with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is often performed by serological testing using an ELISA. This test does not differentiate between infections with wild-type or with vaccine virus. In spite of this, practitioners attempt to use the ELISA results to differentiate between epizootic and enzootic infections. However, the occurrence of wild type and of vaccine or vaccine-derived virus should be considered in Germany (1). In this study, the serological status of previously naive pigs of two herds following the introduction of vaccine-derived N A genotype virus was analysed.
