Nonlinear analysis of prestressed concrete containments under a particular load condition namely internal pressure is discussed in this paper. Only material nonlinearity is consideed. A nonlinear finite element analysis program -KANDAM has been developed for this purpose. Analysis can be carried out through elastic, inelastic, cracking and ultimate load stages. For reinforced / prestressed concrete shell structures under axisymmetric loads a layered axisymmetric shell element is developed. The layered axisymmetric shell element developed is a modification over the conventional layered approach. A nonlinear elastic based approach is adopted for modelling concrete. Crack modelling is done using smeared rotating crack model. The analysis of a prestressed concrete containment scaled down model is also presented.
