Properties of Grease-Soaked Concrete in Containment Building

In the case of the containment building applied the unbonded system with the sheath filled up with grease, grease may be leaked through damaged parts and connection parts of the sheath. The leaked grease may penetrate into the concrete. The concrete penetrated with grease may experience changes in its physical properties and chemical properties. In this study, the physical properties and chemical properties of concrete specimens have been analyzed under three types of temperature conditions and two types of pressure conditions. The test results analyzed to 180days age after dipping in grease show that the chemical reaction between grease and concrete has been occurred slightly. However, compressive strength, tensile strength, and static elastic modulus of test specimens tend to increase. Supposedly, this tendency of the test results is caused by grease penetration into concrete pores. It is expected that the effect of grease on concrete may be evaluated more clearly once the remaining test is completed.
